The Thornybush Private Game Reserve is 11 500 hectares of prime big game habitat consisting of open savannah woodland with patches of tangled thicket and thorny scrub, situated adjacent to the Kruger National Park. With an astounding variety of wildlife as well as more than 500 species of birds, game viewing in the reserve ranks as some of the best in Southern Africa and visitors to Thornybush are virtually guaranteed to see the Big 5 within a day or two. The incredible biodiversity of the area makes it a special destination for the serious nature-lover, and there are plenty of striking trees and beautiful flowers to delight the eye and satisfy the keenest botanist.
Linked to the main lodge by elevated walkways, and boasting unparalleled views, the six palatial suites are the pinnacle of refinement and opulence, featuring private wooden decks, rim-flow pools, thatched gazebos, and additional outside baths and showers. The Royal Suite and the Malewane Suite each sleep four guests and provide an even more secluded luxury African safari experience, featuring their own spacious lounge and dining areas, kitchen and chef, not to mention butler, guide, tracker and personal game drive vehicle. Photography is a passion for all the game rangers at Royal Malewane and they have numerous awards amongst them. A state-of-the-art photographic vehicle has been fully customized to suit both amateur and professional, designed with two swivel armchairs for the utmost comfort, and adjustable camera gimbals to allow you to get the perfect shot. This vehicle can be booked on a request basis.
To engage with the landscape even more intimately, explore the bush on foot with expert guides and trackers at your side. All game rangers hold the highest qualifications, including Special Knowledge and Skills – Dangerous Animals as well as advanced rifle handling certificates to ensure guests enjoy an exceptional game experience on the bush walk. As guest safety is a priority, all safari guides and game trackers receive on-going on-site wilderness emergency training from experts in the field.
Trackers also have extensive knowledge of the constellations of the African night skies, to make your stargazing experience complete.
