Inhabiting a remarkable spot right on the rim of the Crater, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is undeniably one of the most luxurious and architecturally spectacular safari lodges in Africa, with breathtaking views and wildlife. Located in the south-east of the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania, the Crater is a place of rare natural wonders. From its phenomenal terrain to the lavish fauna and flora it supports, it is undeniably worthy of its status as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What makes Ngorongoro Lodge Special?
Justifiably, Ngorongoro lodge is the flagship property for &Beyond. The rooms are luxurious, the food, service and all-round excellence make staying here a wonderful experience. The spectacular views from the suites and the lavish architecture allow for complete serenity whilst experiencing the rich wildlife on the Crater floor.
The Serengeti National Park covers approximately 15 000 km2 of grassland plains, savannah, riverine forest, and woodlands in the northwest of Tanzania.
Situated within the famous plains of south-east Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder 20km across and 600 metres deep. Once a gigantic volcano and now the largest intact caldera in the world, it offers an abundance of wildlife and pure beauty. Sixteen highly-endangered black rhino are protected within the Crater’s rim, elephants wander its forests, black-maned lions track its grasslands, flamingos crowd its salty lakes, and the herds of the Great Migration traverse it, following the rains.
An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl, including a population of approximately 6 000 resident wildebeest and 70 lions. Cheetahs move in and out of the Crater, while leopards are most often encountered in the picturesque Lerai Forest.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge comprises three intimate camps. The north and south Camp have 12 suites each, while the intimate Tree Camp has 6 suites. Each camp has its own separate dining and lounge area with breathtaking views of the crater from large glass windows in the bathroom, lounge and bedroom. The lodge offers elegant sitting and dining areas and viewing decks. All suites have a fireplace, en-suite bathrooms with a chandelier-lit bath-tub and shower, and are discreetly attended by a personal butler.
Children over the age of 8 are welcome in both the North and South Camp. Children over the age of 11 are welcome in all camps.
The carefully selected menu is either home-made or flown in daily from Arusha allowing you to enjoy the freshest ingredients and traditional food that Africa has to offer. With breakfast, lunch and dinner all personally prepared, indulge in a lovely afternoon tea or a sundowner cocktail as you immerse yourself in the spectacular views of the Crater and experience the play of light.
The Ngorongoro Crater lodge can provide some of the best game viewing drives that East Africa has to offer. With the lodge situated at the rim of the Crater, game drives can take a considerable amount of time to reach the Crater’s floor and return to the lodge, so you have a choice of a morning or afternoon game drive per day. During your guided game drive you will experience some incredible wildlife, including magnificent birdlife and the big 5.
Between game drives, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge offers a choice of exceptional additional activities that highlight the best of what the destination has to offer. These include Olduvai Gorge & Shifting Sand Tours, Crater Floor Banquet, Empakai Crater Hike or Crater View Walk.
When relaxing between activities, you can lounge on your suite’s private deck or in the beautiful communal lounge, or enjoy cocktails at the bar while soaking up the views from the main deck.
