North Island is a magical private island getaway situated 27 km from Mahé, and is home to one of the most luxurious, exclusive and esteemed resorts in the Seychelles. Guests here can enjoy the indulgent comforts of 11 supremely private villas, along with deserted, picture-postcard beaches, remarkable dining experiences and a wonderful variety of activities for young and old.
After years of farming, the island has since been restored to its natural state thanks to some admirable conservation efforts, returning the landscape to a paradise filled with beautiful tropical fauna and flora. Each of the resort’s stylish handcrafted villas is built out of natural materials from the restoration process, and all boast magnificent appointments and stunning ocean views. Guests can head to one of the four magnificent powder-white beaches on their private golf buggies or mountain bikes, while each room is allocated its own attendant who will ensure that all specific needs are met.
The cuisine at North Island is outstanding. Guests can choose to dine in stunning spots varying from the dining areas, to the garden pond, the private sala or on the fine white beach sand.
In addition to extensive facilities, the resort offers a superb variety of complimentary watersports activities, as well as scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and catered full day excursions on the island’s well-equipped boats.
North Island is a secluded, stunningly scenic island of approximately 2 km2. The island encompasses four palm tree-lined beaches and granite outcrops rising up out of verdant tropical vegetation, while a pretty marshland is enclosed in the centre. The reef system around the island is resplendent with marine life, making it a paradise for scuba divers and snorkellers.
The island was once infested with invasive plant and animal species, but a huge rehabilitation project has seen native tortoises, bird species and trees (including the iconic coco de mer palm) being reintroduced. Today, North Island hosts mainly endemic Seychelles fauna and flora, and is just as beautiful as it was millennia ago.
Due to the island’s small size, guests can spend time at all four of the dazzling beaches during their stay. You can also climb the granite outcrops, go for sunset cruises around the shoreline or embark on chartered boat or helicopter trips to Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and the remote outer islands.
North Island’s interiors are a stylish blend of polished hand-hewn wood, contemporary lines and soothing hues that mirror the multi-coloured natural surrounds. The communal areas include an open-sided lounge with beautiful ocean and forest views, a dining area and a bar. A walkway leads over a lily-filled pond to the private dining sala underneath a takamaka tree. The elevated infinity pool is tucked amongst granite rocks and palm trees, but still offers wonderful views of the beach and ocean. The comprehensively equipped gym and indulgent spa are set higher up on the mountain, and feature particularly stunning views.
At 450 square metres each, the resort’s 10 air-conditioned Villas are immensely spacious with a flowing open-plan design, and are privately positioned amongst the tropical vegetation on the beachfront. Bedrooms lead to a huge en-suite bathrooms with a marble baths and indoor and outdoor showers. The swanky open-sided lounges and dining areas flow onto expansive decks with plunge pools, salas and loungers.
Situated in a takamaka forest with superb ocean views, the 750m2 Villa North Island is the epitome of indulgence. Special features include a private spa area and a wooden deck with massage beds for private treatments.
In the mornings, guests are greeted with the stunning sight of the sun rising over East Beach, before they savour a superb breakfast at the dining area or in their suite. You can choose to enjoy complimentary kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding or a spectacular guided walk up Spa Hill, where your guide will reveal the colourful historical and ecological heritage of North Island. At additional cost, you can go scuba diving, kite surfing or deep sea fishing, or head out for boat trips to some of the other islands in the archipelago. Drinks and snacks are provided for all excursions.
