MalaMala Sable Camp is located next to the Kruger National Park, in the prime game viewing territory of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. It offers an exclusive and intimate safari experience. Sable Camp offers every opportunity to soak up its surrounds, with rustic decks, a boma for fireside dining under the stars, and large bush-facing verandahs.

What makes MalaMala Sable Camp Special?

Imbued with the spirit of MalaMala, Sable Camp is a more intimate version of the Main Camp and the ideal choice for those seeking a more private and intimate safari. Situated at the southern end of the MalaMala Camp in a prime elevated position overlooking the Sand River and surrounding bushveld, Sable Camp accommodates a maximum of 14 guests. The camp may be reserved exclusively for between 10 and 18 guests, but early booking is essential.

The Reserve

MalaMala is a wildlife paradise situated on the Sand River, in the south of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, and shares a 50km unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. It is renowned for providing some of the best game viewing in South Africa. The reserve has a dense concentration of wildlife, including over 330 plant species, 45 fish, 30 amphibians, 110 reptiles, 500 bird species and 145 mammals.

It is home to the Big 5, and is probably the best place in the world to get up close and personal with the elusive leopard. Extensive flora and fauna lists are available.

MalaMala is the largest private game park in the immediate vicinity of the Kruger National Park, and has built up an internationally acclaimed reputation. It regularly plays host to professional photographers, and film crews from around the world have filmed here due to the abundance of game within the reserve. The reserve is 18 000 hectares in extent, and lies lying strategically sandwiched between the Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve.

For over four decades, MalaMala has remained focused on its objective to preserve and protect the land it occupies. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and filmmakers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice over the years.

The Camp

MalaMala Sable Camp is a smaller, more intimate version of Main Camp and can accommodate 14 guests. Sable Camp can also be booked exclusively and caters for 10 to 18 guests. (Family rooms are available and can provide for a third adult on request).

The thatched suites are all individually decorated, extremely comfortable and have spectacular views of the bush surrounding the Camp. Each air-conditioned suite also features a private veranda, and a 'his & hers' bathroom.

Children over the age of 12 are welcome.

Creature Comforts

MalaMala is a comfortable camp with traditional safari-style décor, including original bronzes, works of art and animal trophies on the walls.

Delicious breakfasts and lunches are served in the air-conditioned dining room. The lodge's elegant dinner service has been a tradition for over 60 years and is complemented with fine wines from the camp's well-stocked cellar.

The Experience

Early morning and afternoon game drives in 4x4 vehicles are the highlights of each day, when a team of knowledgeable rangers accompany guests on their safari adventure.

Besides morning and afternoon safaris, guided bushwalks are on offer daily. Enjoy the pristine wilderness of the bushveld on foot, and discover the wildlife of the area from a different vantage point.

When guests are not out exploring the bush, the spacious lounge leads onto an expansive wooden deck where they can spend a relaxing afternoon watching animals by the river. Other facilities include a bar, library with satellite television and internet connectivity, a well-stocked safari boutique and wine cellar.

The swimming pool is perfect for cooling off while taking in the beautiful scenery, and a gym, steam room and massage service complete a well-rounded range of facilities.
