Rattray’s is located next to MalaMala Main Camp in the heart of the MalaMala Game Reserve. MalaMala is the largest private game park in the immediate vicinity of the Kruger National Park, and has built up an internationally acclaimed reputation. It regularly plays host to professional photographers, and film crews from around the world have filmed here due to the abundance of game within the reserve.
The reserve is 18 000 hectares in extent, and lies strategically sandwiched between the Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve.
For over four decades, MalaMala has remained focused on its objective to preserve and protect the land it occupies. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and filmmakers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice over the years.
Rattray’s at MalaMala boasts 8 luxurious suites, each occupying its own elevated site overlooking the Sand River. All suites have magnificent views from their private terraces and heated plunge pools. Suites are tastefully decorated in a classic African style, and feature large four-poster beds, generous lounges and private dining areas. His-and-hers bathrooms feature indulgent bathtubs and walk-in showers, although you will probably prefer the outdoor shower in summer.
Facilities in the elegant main building encompass a viewing deck, an air-conditioned library, an attractive bar showcasing the history of the area, and an adjoining wine cellar stocked with a wide range of South Africa’s best wines.

MalaMala is a comfortable camp with traditional safari-style décor, including original bronzes, works of art and animal trophies on the walls.
Delicious breakfasts and lunches are served in the air-conditioned dining room. The lodge's elegant dinner service has been a tradition for over 60 years and is complemented with fine wines from the camp's well-stocked cellar.
Early morning and afternoon game drives in 4x4 vehicles are the highlights of each day, when a team of knowledgeable rangers accompany guests on their safari adventure.
Besides morning and afternoon safaris, guided bushwalks are on offer daily. Enjoy the pristine wilderness of the bushveld on foot, and discover the wildlife of the area from a different vantage point.
When guests are not out exploring the bush, the spacious lounge leads onto an expansive wooden deck where they can spend a relaxing afternoon watching animals down by the river. Other facilities include a bar, library with satellite television and internet connectivity, a well-stocked safari boutique and wine cellar.
The swimming pool is perfect for cooling off while taking in the beautiful scenery, and a gym, steam room and massage service complete a well-rounded range of facilities.
