Set against the spectacular backdrop of the perennial Sabie River, internationally acclaimed Lion Sands Ivory Lodge offers 6 exquisite suites, each operated as a private villa and providing a glorious escape from reality. This iconic lodge is about African Euro elegance - sophistication yet simplicity, boldness yet balance, ebony and ivory, perfect harmony, exclusivity, sensitivity and complete privacy.
Only the very few will get to experience the untamed African Bushveld in such lavish comfort and style, with exceptionally fine dining, excellent service by handpicked staff, sublime spa treatments and fantastic game viewing. Experienced rangers will assist you in tracking African wildlife through Big 5 country. The wide range of activities can be tailored to your wishes, and includes the renowned leopards encounter, an exciting hippo tour, and the famous Chalkley & Kingston Treehouse experiences. Children under 10 years are only accommodated if guests book the entire lodge exclusively. Lion Sands was the exclusive host of one of the episodes of The Bachelor TV series. At the time, it was rated as the most romantic location ever screened, combining the excitement and adrenaline of being close to some of Africa’s wildest and most dangerous animals with the private and pure comfort of the incredible suites overlooking the Sabie River as it meanders past. Intensely vibrant and quietly wild, Ivory Lodge is a place you would like to keep secret - but will not be able to resist sharing with friends and family alike.
Family owned and managed by the More Family for four generations, International Award-Winning Lion Sands is situated in the southern part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. It is the only private reserve to have access to the Sabie River, which it shares with the Kruger National Park. Arguably Africa’s most pristine Big 5 territory, the incredible diversity of wildlife at Lion Sands is facilitated by the lack of fences between the reserves and the river’s innate attraction for wildlife. Some of the many species that can be seen here include lion, elephant, white rhino, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, wild dog, giraffe, zebra, hyena, waterbuck, hippo, crocodile, wildebeest, kudu and a host of other mammals. Bird watching is excellent and you could spot Bateleur, Martial Eagle and Crowned Plover amongst many other species.
Set on the banks of the Sabie River and linked by raised walkways, the six ultra-luxurious suites are positioned well apart to ensure complete exclusivity and privacy. Offering simply More of everything, each spacious suite includes an exquisitely appointed spacious bedroom and dedicated lounge with fireplace, courtyard patio, additional outside shower, private rim flow pool, and a stunning viewing deck with uninterrupted views of breathtaking wildlife and the open sand banks of the Kruger National Park. Both internet and telephone access are provided.
Every meal is an exceptional experience, featuring uniquely African dishes with a gourmand twist from the Lodge’s celebrated chef, paired with selected vintages from the Lodge’s wine cellar. Meals are served in a variety of venues, from deck breakfasts, treehouse game brunches and delicious picnic lunches to dining in the elegant indoor dining area, the authentic open-air Boma, or at a secluded candlelit haven in the wilderness beneath the stars.
African afternoons are designed for relaxation: settle back in the comfortable lounge with its delightful fireplace or on one of the wooden viewing decks. Select a wellness treatment from a range of spa therapies at the Health Spa. Although running is not an option (unless you want to challenge the even more athletic predators), there is a full workout gym available. The curio shop offers a selection of safari goods for sale.
Game drives are offered daily at dawn and dusk in open 4x4 safari vehicles, with the evening drive allowing you the chance to spot nocturnal wildlife such as leopard and hyena. The philosophy of the safari experience at Lion Sands is to deliver a consistently professional, informative & holistic safari experience, ensuring that all spheres of the eco-system, from the small insects to the mighty African elephant are covered in as much detail as you may require. The Senior Ecologist, Ranger & Tracker teams have been carefully selected to ensure that your safari experience will not only meet, but exceed your expectations. Special options include hippo tours, leopard encounters and river tours.
Spend a stunning romantic night in the African bush at the Chalkley Treehouse, a secure and lavish platform built around a majestic 500 year old Leadwood Tree with all the comforts of a five star safari lodge and the star studded African sky above you. As an alternative, the Kingston Treehouse for 4, including kids, is constructed entirely from wood and glass, with contemporary décor. This is an experience reserved for the fortunate few, but be warned - once will never be enough.
