The reserve encompasses 7 500 hectares of protected land, showcasing the unique fynbos in an area of natural botanical richness that includes more than 755 indigenous plant species. The unusual sandstone formations and turrets contain bands of shale that are rich in fossils.
Bushmans Kloof is a predator-free area and protects one of the largest private herds of the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra in the world, along with the endangered Clanwilliam Yellowfish and the endemic Clanwilliam Cedar Tree.
Bontebok, red hartebeest, grey rhebok, ostrich and smaller creatures such as the bat-eared fox, African wildcat, Cape fox, caracal, Cape clawless otter, baboon, dassie, klipspringer, aardwolf and aardvark also roam the plains and rocky outcrops of the reserve. The huge diversity of birdlife includes over 150 species, from the great African Fish Eagle to the jewel-like Sunbird, with the dams attracting resident waterfowl.
