Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa (previously known as Indigo Bay Resort) is a luxurious thatched resort surrounded by glittering beaches on Bazuruto Island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The lodge blends laidback luxury and pampering service with spectacular island scenery, warm tropical weather and a host of exciting activities, making for the quintessential beach holiday experience.
Apart from its gorgeous island setting, great facilities and sumptuous buffet meals, the resort includes a mystery spa treatment, daily snorkelling trips and a host of non-motorised water sports activities in the rates. The luxurious air conditioned chalets are set in the shade of beautiful tropical gardens facing the beach, and have hammocks on a private deck. Being within a marine park, the island offers some of the best diving, snorkelling and fishing in Africa, along with many unspoilt beaches to explore.
Within the jewel-like Bazaruto Archipelago, a 30km boat transfer east of mainland Mozambique, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa resides on the 12 000 hectare Bazuruto Island. At 37 kilometres long and up to seven kilometres wide, Bazaruto is the largest island in the archipelago.
Declared part of the protected Bazaruto Archipelago National Park in 1971, and not a shop in sight, guests find themselves immersed in a classic tropical paradise of palm trees, powdery white beaches and prolific marine life. Dense forests cover the interior, brimming with monkeys, birds and antelope, while sought-after game fish thrive in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, presenting a fantastic opportunity for anglers. Adventurers will find plenty to delight their spirits, while others will revel in wandering the empty beaches, watching the spectacular sunsets and sunrises and enjoying the spoils of a Robinson Crusoe-style luxury resort.
The resort offers a variety of opulent villas with varying views of the ocean. All have air conditioning, spacious lounges, outdoor seating areas and full bathrooms with outdoor showers, as well as tea/coffee facilities, mosquito nets, satellite televisions and safes.
The Beach Villas come with a King-size or twin beds, and one child can sleep on an extra bed if needed. Much more spacious, the Seaview Pool Villas are perfect for couples seeking luxury and intimacy, while the Beach Pool Villas are even more romantic havens with double bathrooms and a bath big enough for two. Private plunge pools allow guests the chance to have a perfectly private dip at any time. Families of four will be treated to a pampered stay in the large Deluxe Sea View Villas, which have kitchen areas, private Jacuzzi pools and two full en-suite bedrooms. Meanwhile, the enormous Anantara Pool Villa provides the perfect setting for the ultimate group getaway, featuring Jacuzzis, a deck, outdoor dining area and magnificent ocean views.
Apart from serving delicious buffet meals in the dining room, the resort has an impressive selection of four restaurants for guests to dine at, serving everything from seafood plucked straight from the ocean, to spicy Portuguese dishes and vibrant African fair. The Dining by Design concept also allows guests to have a private gourmet meal tailor-made to their tastes, and served in a setting of your choosing.
During their stay, guests can make use of the resort’s swimming pool, tennis courts, spa and lounge areas, or take part in a game of ‘Qolf’, a unique blend between croquet and golf.
With its range of facilities, the lodge offers plenty in the way of relaxation, but if this isn’t quite up your alley, then you can fill your days with scuba diving, deep sea fishing, watersports, dune boarding, horse riding and cultural expeditions.
The little ones can have free use of the Indi Kidz Club, which provides adult supervision and a host of entertaining activities.
The sunset dhow cruise is a special way to end the day, sipping on your drink of choice while watching the sun dipping below the Indian Ocean horizon.
